Whimsical, charming (and sometimes thought provoking) poems and rhymes from Yorkshire poet and garden lover David Thornton.
David A Thornton began thinking up rhyming poems and short stories to keep his little sister quiet on long car journeys over 45 years ago. In 2018 he started to publish his poems on social media and now has thousands of followers who share and comment on his work. In the last two months over 1 million people have seen his poems online.
Check our David’s new video series “Poems in the Potting Shed”, uploaded weekly on Sundays at 6pm.
David trained at the school of Performing Arts before running a small Arts Council funded touring theatre company in the UK. He went on to have a career in the theme park and tourism industry, launching rollercoasters and white water rides, writing costume character shows and developing themed lands for visitors to enjoy.
He has been a musician all his life and has written and produced two musicals on stage. He performs as a solo musician and also plays in a touring band. David is a keen gardener and often writes poems whilst sitting in his greenhouse.
He has received a number of commissions for his poetry, and also gives workshops and public performances.
David lives on the edge of the Peak District National Park (UK) with his wife Jo and PK the cat, who featured in some of his early poems. He is a member of the Musicians Union and the UK Poetry Foundation.
