Trig-Trig! I phoned the water board,
Reporting a new leak.
Water had been seeping
Through the tarmac for a week.
“We”ll come tomorrow morning”
The helpful lady said,
Tomorrow came, but they did not,
They came next day instead.
They put up all their barriers,
And closed the whole road down,
No cars could move, no shopping done,
No visits into town.
They dug a great big hole right there,
Which made the leak much bigger,
Then packed up all their bits and bobs
And took away their digger.
A few days later, they returned,
And filled up their big hole
I said the leak had not been fixed,
They said “That’s not our goal”
Apparently, they pay a fine,
If holes are not filled in,
“We’ll dig it up again next week”
He told me with a grin.
What a waste of time and motion,
Workmen on repeat!
So now we have a river
Down the middle of our street.
