The Power Play

Actors stroll onto the stage,
Shapeshifters, every one,
Dancing in the spotlight,
Until the show is done.

Smiling for the cameras,
Whilst basking in our gaze,
Descending into darkness,
And a soporific haze.

The driver for this tragedy,
Was once to do some good,
Now fuelled by huge ambition
And that privileged knighthood.

Absolute in every way,
That rush of blinding power,
And then the fall upon the sword,
When everything turns sour.
